The Mike Murphy Law Group history begins with one lawyer. Michael Murphy, K.C. has practised law for more than forty years, and for part of that time he served in the government of New Brunswick. The firm that carries his name is now 24 people in five offices across New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador.
Michael Murphy, K.C. Was Attorney General of New Brunswick Before Building the Firm
Michael Murphy was elected to the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick and sat in cabinet as Minister of Health, Government House Leader and Attorney General of New Brunswick. The Attorney General is the province’s chief law officer, responsible for the administration of justice and for the prosecution service.
He returned to private practice after government and built the firm around personal injury litigation. He is a member of the New Brunswick and Nova Scotia bars, practises in French and in English, and was appointed King’s Counsel. He is the firm’s senior counsel and works from the Moncton office.
The Mike Murphy Law Group History Is a Trial Practice That Produced Two Record Decisions
An injury claim settles for what the insurer expects a court would award. The insurer’s expectation depends on whether the firm across the table will go to trial. So the firm prepares every file as if it will be tried. The medical evidence, the income loss figures and the expert reports are assembled early, not in the weeks before a trial date.
The two largest personal injury decisions in Atlantic Canada came out of that practice. Allen v. Doiron, 2026 NBKB 049, was tried in the Court of King’s Bench of New Brunswick in Moncton. Trainor v. DeArcos, 2025 NBCA 131, was upheld by the Court of Appeal of New Brunswick. Both are described at injury law results.
The Firm Is Now 24 People in Five Offices
The firm grew from Moncton to Saint John, then across the Northumberland Strait to Halifax, Charlottetown and St. John’s. Aodhan Murphy is the managing partner and practises from Halifax. Taylor Morin is the managing partner in Moncton. The lawyers, articled clerks, paralegals and staff are listed at the team.
